Happy to report we finally got some things to go our way and brought home a big win Sunday night at Slinger in the Carl Wegner Memorial!!
Started the night out by winning the fast dash from the outside front row. After the invert, we started 3rd row outside for the feature. The top lane was definitely the place to be with the cooler temps, as the engines were making some crazy horsepower!! Could rocket down those straights carrying momentum around the top! Got ourselves to 3rd and started saving tires as i didn't think the leaders would be able to hold the fast pace they were running. As the laps wound down the leaders started getting aggressive and we were running 4th with all 4 of us running nose to tail. With just 11 laps to go, 1st and 2nd place bounced off each other and crashed hard down the back stretch, collecting the 3rd place car. This handed us the lead, and with a sprint to the finish we were able to rocket around the top and run away grabbing our first win of the season!!
What a great night for our team! The Carl Wegner (Builds our race engines / Wegner Automotive) race has always been special, and we've been able to win it 3/5 times (2019,2022,2023). We've had fast cars all year long, but just haven't had the luck. Ruby finally got to see her dad win! haha
Just 1 race remains at Slinger in the 2023 SLM season. We're back in action next Sunday night for the Labor Day 100! We've solidified our 3rd place position in the championship standings. Going to need some bad things to happen to the top 2 to make something happen. Hoping to have more high res photos by friday! I'll be sure to pass them along once I receive it from the track photographers!
