Legendary automotive entrepreneur Andrew “Jack” Griffith created the Griffith Series 200 in 1964 by shoehorning Ford\'s lightweight Windsor V-8 into the nose of a TVR Grantura. It all began over a drink at a bar with Carroll Shelby during a Ford convention. As the night grew long, Mr. Griffith, who was a dealer for Carroll Shelby\'s new Cobra in New York, trumpeted that he could build a faster, less expensive sportscar. With that…the Griffith Series 200 was born. Proof of concept led TVR in the United Kingdom to ship body and chassis units to Syosset, New York where Griffith Motorcars installed the engine and completed assembly of the final product. The very first Griffith 200 was Ford 260 V8 powered, with the remaining 191 Griffiths being powered by standard or High Performance (HIPO) Ford 289s dependent upon customer wishes. The standard Ford 289 yielded 195 hp, whereas a customer upgrade to the HIPO 289 unleashed an impressive 271 hp with 312 lb.-ft of torque to the road…like this example that has been driven just 18,588 miles from new. In its glory day, this Griffith was utilized to lure unsuspecting participants into quarter mile contests on the streets of Buffalo, New York. Rear end driveline failure led this Griffith into an eventual forty-year slumber within a detached garage in upstate New York. The current owner of this Series 200 purchased the street racer from hibernation and restored it back to factory specifications over a near decade long restoration…yielding the car you see before you today. The restoration of this automobile was followed closely by Mr. Griffith himself over a period of several years with his autograph showing proudly on the steering wheel and inner front fender. One of the first factory \"supercars\" ever produced, the 1965 Griffith Series 200 completes 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds with a top speed of 165 mph.
